If you aren't familiar with the Global Poker League, and their Summer Series events, let's get you up to speed.
Prior to the Summer Series, the GPL held a set of 6 max Sit N Gos, and then a series of heads up matches. All matches were played online and live streamed on Twitch.tv. The Summer Series are all heads up matches and played live.
We already in week 5, of the six-week series, and are seeing the fruition of its results. The Americas conference has been dominating the Summer Series, with both conferences leaders growing their lead throughout. This week would see little change to that trend.
Sorel Mizzi from the Berlin Bears started the matches off against Jonathan Jaffe of the San Francisco Rush. Mizzi would win 2 of 3 matches earning 6 points for his basement dwelling Bears.
Igor Kurganov from the London Royals faced off against Bryn Kenney of the New York Rounders. Igor would earn another 2 victories for the Eurasia conference earning 6 more points for his London team.
Match 3 would kick off a trend of sweeps with the Rome Empowers Mustapha Kanit winning all 3 heads up matches against Jake Cody of the Las Vegas Moneymakers.
Pascal LeFrancois would finally get a win for the Americas Conference by sweeping David Kitai of Paris. Sergey Lebedev would sweep Joao Bauer of Sao Paulo and earn a much needed 9 points for his Moscow Wolverines.
The final match had Olivier Busquet winning 2 of 3 heads up matches from Weiyi Zhang of Hong Kong.
After all the sweeps, we some slight changes in the standings. Montreal would extend their already impressive lead to 11 points over the LA Sunset with their sweep and 9 points. Sao Paulo is fading quickly in 3rd place with 109 points after losing all 3 of their heads up matches.
In the Eurasia conference, Moscow widened their lead over the London Royals with 119 points. London sits at 109 points with Hong Kong still in 3rd at 106 points. Paris is still in the hunt with 101 points, but need to pick up the pace.
Rome and Berlin are left in the dust with 90, and 89 points respectively.
We have just one week left of the Summer Series before the Global Poker League moves on to their next phase. All matches can be watched on Poker Central, and Twitch.tv.
