The Hollywood Poker Open at the M Resort kicks off this weekend with a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000.
Penn National Gaming, Inc. is sponsoring the Hollywood tournament which runs Friday through Sunday and is named after their casino brand, Hollywood. Qualifying satellites took place at the Hollywood Casino locations and at the M Resort for the 2,500 buy-in no limit hold'em event.
“Any walk-up business adds to the pool, which we have already guaranteed at $500,000,” said Penn National Senior Vice President of Regional Operations Jay Snowden. “The timing of the event does accommodate anyone here for the World Series of Poker to take part.”
Penn National is based in Wyomissing, Pa. and owns 29 casinos and racetracks. They acquired control of M Resort in June 2011 and The Hollywood Poker Open will draw quite a bit of attention.
“That's why this is being held in timing with the World Series of Poker,” Snowden said. “A lot of our customers are in town for the tournament. Many of our best poker players will already be here.”
