Last Sunday, May 21st, PokerStars, hosted a tournament, which is being referred to as the LARGEST in online poker history! In record-breaking fashion, the tournament saw the popular online poker room soaring past $39 million in prizes, beating last year’s total of $35 million. Over the course of the day, more than 1,275 tournaments occurred alongside the brand’s Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Main Event.
The tournament began with a $28 million guarantee, with total prizes paid out climbing well beyond that number. Additionally, more than $29.5 million was paid out during the SCOOP event. A High Stake Main Event also went beyond its $5 million guarantee, reaching a $6.9 million prize pool. Over $1.3m was reserved for the winner, and $960,000 for the runner up.
PokerStars’ director of poker innovations and operations, Severin Rasset, commented, “Thank you to all our players who participated in our tournaments making it possible for us to break these records. Being able to offer the biggest day in the online poker history is a victory for everyone in poker and we’re delighted that so many of our players joined us to make this a reality.”
Rasset further added, "We are proud to have been able to provide so many winning moments to so many of our players and we’re looking forward to providing even more for a long time to come."
The operator isn’t done changing lives just yet. In fact, another lucky individual is expected to hit the million-dollar mark in the High Stakes Event 1 Phase 2 tournament. The winner can look forward to a reserved $1m prize, and the runner up, $700,000.
