Sammy Watkins Up All Night Playing Poker
Buffalo Bills star wide receiver has posted his lucky streak at a casino in North Carolina on his Facebook account. The Bills, one of the NFLs rising teams, held voluntary workouts this week. Although voluntary, it's generally expected that all players make the trip to participate in team workouts. Watkins used the term voluntary to skip practice and spend a few days at a casino.
His first post pictured a stack of chips worth $6,500 at the cashier's cage in Harrah's Cherokee Casino after winning at poker. His second post showed he andQ his buddies after pulling an all-nighter in the same casino.
Had this been a normal training camp, Watkins would likely be disciplined for his actions. Although his actions are borderline by NFL standards, the term – “voluntary” should excuse him from any disciplinary action.
Amaya Gaming Hires Lobbyist
In the ongoing fight to regulate online poker, and gambling in general in the United States – Poker Stars parent company, Amaya Gaming, has hired a lobbyist group to help in their battle.
First reported by “The Hill”, Amaya has armed themselves with CSA Strategies, a Capitol Hill Lobbying group.
This move comes after casino magnate; Sheldon Adelson has stepped up his own fight to rid the world of online gambling. The super wealthy casino owner has plenty of money behind him, and now he has The Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling, along with the Keelen Group in his corner.
Adelson added The Keelen Group to his fight as he steps up the pressure to get his way. Amaya hopes to fight back with their own lobbyist and shit down what some see as online pokers biggest threat.
Michigan and California Next in Line for Online Poker
Currently, only Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware have regulated online gambling. Pennsylvania and New York have been in talks to be the next states to offer the service in their state. With little talk in the past few months regarding the game, news came earlier this week that Michigan is adding Senate Bill No. 899.
This bill proposes the “licensing and certification on games of chance and games of skill is a core form of entertainment for millions of individuals worldwide.” In laymen terms, this bill is to regulate online gambling in the state of Michigan.
So far, four politicians have backed this bill which is good news. In a state that has been struggling to create jobs and income, online gambling seems a likely short term solution for a desperate government.
California has always had online poker on the slate, though little movement has been made. Its main opponent has been the tribal gaming leaders within the state. Worried online gambling would decrease their revenue, a bill that served both parties have been difficult to create
The latest bill is scheduled for April 27th 2016. To help ease fears of California race tracks dominating the online gambling industry and taking money from tribal casinos, $60 million is proposed to go to race tracks in exchange for their exclusion in offering online gambling.
