High Stakes Prop Bets – Biking from L.A. to Vegas for $600,000
High stakes poker players are known for their skills on the table. But, perhaps they are best known for their prop bets off the tables. Prop bets have become common place in gambling, with possibly more money changing hands from these bets than at the tables. They have also become the stuff of legends. From Howard Lederer eating a cheeseburger for $10,000. To the man who won $100,000 by getting breast implants. He still has them to this date. Years after the bet was complete. His insurance paid the man-boobs at that. Bill Perkins, a high stakes hedge fund manager, and high stakes poker player has become one of the biggest creators of prop bets in the gambling community as of late. Earlier in 2016, he bet Antonio Esfandiari that he couldn't lunge everywhere he walked. Esfandiari would win the bet, but was kicked out of a tournament in the process. He decided peeing in a bottle under the table was a slick way to get around lunging to the bathrooms. The tournament director thought otherwise. Almost immediately following this bet, Perkins upped the ante with Dan Bilzerian. Dan, a high stakes gambler perhaps best known for Instagram took one of the craziest bets ever made. He had to ride a bike from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in under 48 hours. Dan had a few months to train for the $600,000 prop bet, but also suffered from heart problems that has out him in the hospital on more than occasion. He won the bet, completing the trek in 33 hours. There was some debate as to whether or not Dan cheated since he used a van to draft most of the way there. The two decided drafting was ok, and Bilzerian walked away with his life and $1 million after it was all said and done from side bets. Many poker pros jumped on this bandwagon by making side bets. Vanessa Selbst and other went as far to say that the bet wasn't all that difficult. Brian Rast being one of those who felt the ride of 300 miles could easily be done. Perkins and Bilzerian have now decided to take Rast up on his words by offering him the same bet. Only this time, there will be no van, no drafting, and no time to prepare. Rast has just 3 days to get his affairs in order and make the ride to the infamous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign 300 miles away, and 1,700 feet uphill. The wager is for $600,000. Perkins and Bilzerian will be risking $600,000 of their own money, with Rast risking just $100,000. The poker world is once again buzzing with comments, side bets and already planning future side bets. Perkins has said he has a few prop bets in the works that include rowing from England to the United States. And walking from coast to coast across America.
